$500,000 in funding to support women in resources industry

The Queensland Government is providing $500,000 for a pilot program to help women grow their careers in the resources industry.

Queensland Resources Council will deliver Women in Resources: Empowering Development (WIRED) program. The program supports the Queensland Government’s election commitment to boosting the number of women in technical and operational roles within the industry.

The pilot recognises the important role women play in driving innovation, safety and sustainability in one of Queensland’s most important economic sectors.

Mining was Queensland’s second-largest industry in 2024-25. It was worth $44 billion and employed more than 82,000 workers. The industry supports the prosperity of communities from the coast to the outback.

The program will offer mentoring, training and support to help women work and progress in technical and operational roles, in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

It will deliver:

  • upskilling and reskilling
  • technical and leadership skill development
  • mentoring and confidence building
  • knowledge of technological advancements
  • pathways to higher-level roles, including site-based, operator and technician jobs in the Queensland resources sector.

This program will help build a diverse skilled workforce and create job opportunities for Queenslanders.
