Ensuring access to training across Queensland is an ongoing challenge with a need to better match training with local industries and employment opportunities.
The Right Skills Strategy will deliver:
Access to training for Queensland’s regions
- Build a diverse network of local training providers to deliver high-quality, government funded training.
- Funding that supports training for regional communities and niche industries.
More world-class training facilities
- $60 million to build a new TAFE Centre of Excellence in Moreton Bay.
- $2 million for a Marine Centre of Excellence for Southern Moreton Bay Islands, working with industry and TAFE Queensland.
- $61.1 million for a new TAFE Excellence Precinct in Rockhampton, working with CQUniversity.
- $78 million for a TAFE Centre of Excellence in Caloundra to focus on construction trades.
- $17.6 million to expand the Great Barrier Reef International Marine College in Cairns.
- $5 million for a Manufacturing Centre of Excellence in Maryborough to be operated by Manufacturing Skills Queensland.
The next generation of trainers
- $2 million to recruit of the next generation of trainers where they are most needed.
- Focus on trade professionals, former defence personnel and parents returning to work.
Flexible and innovative training solutions
- More training designed with industry, such as micro-credentials and non-accredited training. This allows Queensland to respond quickly to changing and emerging skill needs.
- $2 million to expand the Local Skills Solutions program to better support regional economies and communities.
