Closing the Gap in vocational education and training (VET)
The Queensland and Australian Governments are investing $64.6 million to close the gap in vocational education and training. It will build on the strengths of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander training sector to develop skills for jobs. In doing so, it will expand access to quality skills and training across Queensland.
There are 4 focus areas:
- $29 million for training that is led by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations to meet local workforce needs
- $6.2 million to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander training organisations to grow and succeed
- $15 million for skills for critical industries, such as construction, health care and social assistance. This will connect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with careers in growth sectors.
- $14.3 million to build the training workforce and help students to complete their training.
Activities
Closing the gap in VET includes 11 activities:
